The museum is a proof of America’s innovation and bravery. The museum features the historic aircraft carrier Intrepid, and other jets and missile submarines. The museum was founded when it acquired the legendary USS Intrepid which is a National Historic Landmark and has served tour duties in World War II and also the Vietnam War. I have been a big fan of war movies and Army so seeing this aircrafts and submarines in front of me was a breath taking experience.
Some of the historic and landmark features in the museum were the Space Shuttle Pavilion. It was America’s first ever space shuttle and successful space program. Among many other items of display, one is the Lockheed A12 Blackbird which is considered to be the world’s fastest military Jet and spy plane. We were quite amazed to see this Jet in front of our eyes; it was the star attraction of the museum. Another such beauty was the British Airways Concorde, which is the fastest ever commercial aircraft in the world.
Apart from these there is also a replica of NASA’s Aurora 7 mercury capsule and US Coast Guard’s Sikorsky. Overall the visit to the museum was very informative and was testimony to the military prowess of United States of America.
We were now ready for our next destination, the Chrysler building of New York.
