Photography has attracted people since the first camera was developed in the early 19th century. The power of a photograph cannot be overstated, it gives us a way to preserve time and capture moments.

Looking at photographs is like travelling in time. If one has ever clicked a photograph he/she knows that every photograph is a method of expression. The mood and effect of the photograph not only depends on the subjects of the photograph but also on the imagination of the photographer. Hence I believe that photography is an art form just like painting and dance or music.

The development in science and technology has been reflected in the development of photography techniques. In the beginning years of the art, pinhole cameras were used to create pictures on plates.

The process of taking a click as we call it today itself took several hours. The process of development of the image was even more cumbersome and involved dangerous chemicals and acid, then came the age of easy to use plates and films. Kodak was a pioneer in this field. It bought photography in the reach of the general public and now everybody could own their personal camera. They could travel with it and click their own pictures. This was the rise of amateur photography.

The Digital Age brought a new revolution in photography technology. Photography now became easier than ever. One could click images instantly and see them instantly on hand held devices. The age of videography also developed rapidly with the advent of digital technologies. Now there were no limits on the number of images you could take at once. Memory cards became cheap and easily available. Today we live in an age where even 5-6 year old kids handle cameras with ease and proficiency.

With the freedom of clicking large number of images instantly came a drawback. With a rise in quantity came a fall in quality, not in terms of resolution or any other technical aspect but at an aesthetic level. People seldom appreciate the importance of a photograph these days and the power it yields. A photograph can make you laugh, it can make you cry, and it has the power to bring change.
